CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The National Organic Agriculture Program (NOAP), through the Department of Agriculture- Regional Field Office 10 (DA-RFO 10), spearheaded the conduct of the 14th National Organic Agriculture Congress last October 24-26, 2017 at the Atrium, Limketkai Center, Cagayan de Oro City.

The 14th NOAC served as another avenue to convene the stakeholders, supporters and practitioners of Organic Agriculture. A total of 1,600 registered participants – including various stakeholders, supporters of Organic Agriculture, as well as Organic farmers, participated in the said event. To grace the event, the Department of Agriculture Secretary, Emmanuel F. Piñol, with the Undersecretary for Agribusiness and Marketing, and Regional Engagement, Bernadette Romulo-Puyat, Regional Executive Director of DA-RFO 10, Carlene C. Collado and National Organic Agriculture Program- National Program Coordinator Engr. Christopher V. Morales lead the opening of the Congress.

Secretary Piñol also highlighted the three (3) things that are needed in agriculture to improve productivity – first, the use of modern technology in organic farming like the use of organic fertilizer and organic bio-control; second, through financing, in which the production loan easy access for the farmers is already being utilized; lastly, linking the farmers directly to the market to attain productivity.

The 2017 National Organic Agriculture Achievers’ Awards winners and shortlisted nominees were also acknowledged for their outstanding efforts and for their continuous support to the Organic Agriculture industry.

The Outstanding Regional Organic Agriculture Focal Person, Ms. Adelina Losa from Region V was also recognized based on the physical and financial accomplishments of the Region. 

Gawad Saka Awardee on Outstanding Organic Farmer Category, Pastor Jerry Dionson, was also recognized for sharing his best practices in Organic Agriculture. 

The outgoing National Organic Agriculture Board (NOAB) members were also acknowledged for their fruitful term as the highest policy-making body for Organic Agriculture while the incoming members conducted their oath taking as the new members of the NOAB.

Breakout sessions were also conducted for beginners, marketers and researchers to further imbibe knowledge to the participants regarding Organic Agriculture.
