Through the certification subsidy provided by the government, four (5) organic farmer organizations and 15 farmer individuals assisted by the Organic Agriculture Program (OAP) of the Department of Agriculture were certified by the Organic Certification Center of the Philippines (OCCP).

The five organic organizations awarded were Bauko Organic Practitioners Association (BOPA), Tublay Organic Practitioners Farmers Association (TOPFA), La Trinidad Organic Farmers Association (La Organica), La Trinidad Organic Practioners Multi Purpose Cooperative (LaTop MPC) and Barangay Loakan Organic Farmers Association (BLOFA).

Mr. Jefferson Costina Laruan, co-founder of the La Trinidad Organic Practitioners Multi-Purpose Cooperative (LaTOP MPC), owner of Lily of the Valley Organic Farm, and a Regional Gawad Saka awardee in 2011 was validated by the National Technical Search Committee (NTSC) as the region’s nominee to the National Organic Agriculture Board (NOAB) for small farmer representative last September 14, 2017.

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet — In support to the rural development program of President Rodrigo Duterte, the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority-Cordillera (TESDA-CAR) has finally opened its very first TESDA-accredited organic farm schools in Benguet province to train new organic farmers.

An Organic Congress was conducted in Lagawe, Ifugao on June 15, 2017 at the Lagawe, Central School gymnasium to provide an avenue to discuss and able to come up with development plan for the Organic Agriculture industry in the province and become an essential inputs in the region’s immediate and long term development programs.

Also, the activity aims to highlight and present programs and activities that strongly support assurance of sustainable supply of clean and safe food that shall always be available, accessible, and affordable for the people.

Governor Pedro G. Mayam-o acknowledged that farmers are the most important citizen in every nation that is why in his development programs, agriculture comes second most important matter to oversee. He then reminded the farmers of the support of the DA Secretary Manny Piñol to the province. “Secretary Piñol had been visiting this province several times and have committed to see to it that the farmers are supposed to be well benefitted by the programs of the government” he said. 
After sharing secretary Piñol’s thoughts and commitments to the Province, he then urged the farmers and provincial staff to help, cooperate and support the programs of the government so that as much as possible, food production in the province will increase and will be able to supply the needs of their neighboring provinces.

Dr. Cameron Odsey, Department of Agriculture- Cordillera, Regional Technical Director for Research and Regulatory Services also shared that the Department has done so far to help the Province of Ifugao in addressing poverty. He stated that in 2016, around 91M worth of different
