The Department of Agriculture Regional Organic Agriculture Program has a total budget allocation of P22,154,000.00 in support to the interventions for CY-2016. This funds is utilized to support both Technical Support Services and Agricultural Equipment and Facilities Support Services. A total of 9,764,000 was allocated to support interventions for the Technical Support Services and 12,390,000 was allocated to support Agricultural Equipment and Facilities Support Services interventions.

Technical Support Services interventions was centered into three (3) components namely: Production Support Services (PSS), Market Development Services and Extension Support (MDS), Education and Training Services (ESETS). Below are details of the program’s accomplishment for the three (3) components in CY- 2016:

  1. Production Support Services

    This component of the Program has rendered interventions, including the production and distribution of seeds, planting materials, soil ameliorants and animals, establishment and upgrading of DA production facilities and conduct soil/compost sample analysis.

    1. Produced and Distributed:
      • 620 kilograms of organic vegetable seeds
      • 200,000 pcs. of Planting Materials
      • 1,020 kgs. of Compost Fungus Activator (Trichoderma)
      • 10 heads of organic chicken
    2. Conducted 233 Soil Compost Analysis implemented by Regional Soils Laboratory (RSL)
    3. Established 1 unit Organic Poultry Production Farm at DA Station – Malaybalay Stock Farm (MSF)
    4. Upgraded 3 units existing Organic Fertilizer Production Facilities located at three (3) DA stations namely: NMACLRC, RCHD and RCUD.
  2. Market Development Services (MDS)

    This component includes the conduct of market-related events and participation to market-related events.

    1. Conducted:
      • 5 Consumer Awareness Seminar on OA for the five (5) provinces of region 10 namely: Camiguin, Misamis Oriental, Misamis Occidental, Lanao del Norte and Bukidnon.
      • 2 Investment Fora on OA at Cagayan de Oro City
      • 2nd Regional OA Congress at Chali Beach Hotel and Restuarant
      • 3rd Regional Organic Trade Fair at SM City, Cagayan de Oro City
    2. Participated:
      • 2 Local Organic Trade Fair/Congress
      • 1 International Organic Trade Fair/Congress
  3. Education and Training Services (ESETS)

    This component includes conduct of training and training-related activities, production and distribution of information, education and communication (IEC) materials, funding for the establishment of organic technology demonstration farms, provision of assistance for 3rd party certification subsidy, and the awarding of Regional Organic Achievers’ Awardees (ROAAs)

    1. Conducted:
      • 14 seminar and capability building for local technical committees
      • 1 Capability Building for R-19 OA Pre-Assessment Team
      • 5 Stakeholders’ Consultation
      • 1 School-on-the-Air (SOA) Program on Mushroom Production and Processing
      • 1 Strategic Planning-Workshops for OA
    2. Conducted 2 Pre-Assessment of OA Farms
      • DOALNARA Restoration Multipurpose Cooperative at Claveria, Misamis Oriental
      • MOMs Happy Farm at Mambatangan, Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon
    3. Awarded the following Regional Organic Agriculture Achievers Awardees:

Agricultural Equipment and Facilities Support Services (AEFSS) (Continuing fund)

This includes distribution of Production and Post-harvest Related Machineries, Equipment and Facilities.

  1. Distribution of the following:
    • Six (6) Units Mobile Shredder to the following proponents:
      • One (1) unit for LGU- Bacolod, Lanao del Norte
      • One (1) unit for LGU- Don Carlos, Bukidnon
      • One (1) unit for LGU- Gingoog City, Misamis Occidental
      • One (1) unit for Discalced Carmelite Order, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon
      • One (1) unit for TESDA School, Lanao del Norte
      • One (1) unit for Tuburan IP’s Association, Talakag, Bukidnon
    • Three (3) Units Rice Mill
      • One (1) unit for LGU- Lala, Lanao del Norte
      • One (1) unit for LGU- Kauswagan, Lanao del Norte
      • One (1) unit for LGU- Valencia City, Bukidnon

On top of the programmed interventions for OA, the region in collaboration with DA-Central Office, including its attached bureaus and agencies, has also initiated and pioneered the farming family food security model program for the 7 Tribes of Bukidnon. This follows the Integrated and Diversified Organic Farming System, which is tailored to suit the needs of every benefitting Indigenous People community.

Needless to say, the efforts of the Program, have not gone in vain, as the region now boasts 3,253.77 hectares of existing OA area with a volume of production, registering at 5,166.37 metric tons. More noteworthy, it is currently the home of 2,692 organic practitioners and 2 organic certified farms.

With the noticeable engagement of organic farmers and other agri-stakeholders to OA, it is no surprise that OA is gaining ground in the region, and optimistically, will reach greater heights in the years to come.
