Region 6 consists of six provinces: Aklan, Antique, Negros Occidental, Capiz, Guimaras and Iloilo.Western Visayas has a total Agricultural area of 666,917 hectares. The National Organic Agriculture Program has a total of 33,345 hectares target area. For now, we have accounted a total of 14,754 hectares of Organic areas including Organic by default, 15,240 number of practitioners/adopters and two (2) of 3rd party Certified Farms namely 1 Katilingban sang mga Agraryo Padulong sa PAg-uswag sang Iloilo (KASAPPI) and 2 Orchard Valley.

            To further enhance the promotion and development of organic agriculture, the program distributed One Thousand Two Hundred (1,200) kilograms of Rice Seeds, Eighty Three Kilograms (83) kilograms of assorted vegetables seeds, Eighteen (18) Heads of Upgraded goat, Eight (8) heads of native swine and One Hundred Thirty (130) heads of native Chicken were delivered to farmer practitioner as beneficiaries. The program also established one (1) unit of Greenhouse without drip Irrigation and One (1) unit of Nursery under the Production Support Services. These were benefited by One Hundred Seventy Two (172) individuals and 15 groups.    

            The program also funded the following Trainings and Workshops under the Market Development Services: 1 Herbs Production, Utilization, Processing & Marketing with GAP Certification Guidelines & Tour on Feb. 15-17, 2016 at RIAM, La Paz, Iloilo; 2 Techno Forum at Panaad sa Negros Agri Trade Fair 2016 held on April 16-21, 2016 at Panaad Organic Village, Brgy. Mansilingan, Bacolod City; 3 Training on Ginger Brew (Instant Salabat) Processing held on July 28-29, 2016 at Sigma, Capiz. Also assisted two (2) exhibitors from Region 6, the Philippine Association of Agri-Herbal Growers (PAAHG)-Western Visayas & Rosary Herbal Products during the 13th NOAC Trade Fair & Exhibits and Slow Food (Ark of Taste) last November 23-25, 2016 at Plaza del Norte, Laoag, Ilocos Norte and conducted 3 batches of Training Workshop on Organic Food Processing cum Market Matching held on March 21-23, 2016; June 13-15, 2016 and October 12-14, 2016 at Remnant Institute of Alternative Medicine, Inc., La Paz, Iloilo City; 4 Agri-Preneurship On-Farm Training Workshop for Farm Business School graduates of Sta. Barbara, Iloilo held on April 6-8, 2016 at Peñalosa Farms, Victorias City, Negros Occidental; 5 Seminar on Organic Agriculture cum Health & Wellness as per request of OMA-Miag-ao held on April 29, 2016 at Miag-ao, Iloilo to promote organic agriculture and healthy lifestyle in the municipality and to encourage more stakeholders to consume organic produce from the locality; 6 Influencing Agribusiness Demand and Supply in the Province of Iloilo (Market Matching) held on April 29, 2016 at Casa Real, Iloilo City which linked agricultural producers to target markets; 7 4th Regional Organic Agriculture Stakeholders Summit Trade Fair cum Market Matching Sol y Mar Family Beach Resort, Brgy. Namocon, Tigbauan, Iloilo held on Nov. 2-4, 2016. A total of 1258 individuals and 46 groups benefited the Market Development Services.           

            A total of Three Hundred Eighty Seven (387) farmers, Local Government Unit representatives and other organic agriculture stakeholders attended the different activities under the ESSETS component of the program such as 1 Organic Agriculture Review and Planning Workshop for 2016 Program Implementation held on January 21 – 22, 2016 at Punta Villa Iloilo City; 2 Municipal Organic Agriculture Focal Persons’ Meeting held on March 14, 2016 at Madison Hotel, Iloilo City; 3 Second Quarter Meeting for Regional Organic Agriculture Focal Persons’ Coordinating Body held on April 29, 2016 at Harbor Hotel, Iloilo City; 4 Attendance to the Organic Agriculture Stakeholders Meeting held on May 19 and 20, 2016 at Days Hotel, Iloilo City; 5 Orientation on Organic Agriculture for the 4th Estate held on June 15, 2016 at Orchard Valley, Iloilo City; 6 Briefing on GAP, GAHP and PNS Certification Protocols held on June 17, 2016 at Days Hotel, Iloilo City; 7 Hands on Training on Vermicomposting and NFS Concoctions and Extracts in the Implementation of Organic Agriculture held on June 27 – 28, 2016 held at Cabatuan National High School; 8 Appreciation Course on Organic Agriculture and Installation off Internal Control System for Small Holder Group held on July 5 to 8, 2016 at Oton, Iloilo City; 9 Training on Natural Farming System & Livestock & Poultry Production held on August 22 to 24, 2016 at Banga, Aklan; 10 OA Stakeholders Commodity Profiling held on August 30 to 31, 2016 at Midtown Hotel, Iloilo City; 11 Orientation on Health Preparation of Organic Food held on September 15, 2016 at Tubungan, Iloilo City; 12 Third quarter meeting for Regional Organic Agriculture Focal Persons’ Coordinating Body held on September 20, 2016 at Harbor Hotel, Iloilo City; 13 Training on Organic Agriculture Technologies with Permaculture Principles held on 20 to 23, 2016 at Tigbauan, Iloilo City; 14 Briefing and call for Proposal for 2017 Program Implementation held on September 23, 2016 at Midtown Hotel, Iloilo City; 15 Hands-on Demonstration of Vermi-Tea Making and Preparation of Organic Fertilizer held on October 5, 2016 held on Buenavista, Guimaras; 16 4th Quarter meeting for Regional Organic Coordinating Body held on October 14, 2016 at Harbor Hotel, Iloilo City; 17 Orientation of Proponents and Beneficiaries on Production Support Services and use and management of Agricultural Equipment and Facilities of the Regional Organic Agriculture Program held on October 27, 2016 at Midtown Hotel, Iloilo City and 18 The Regional Organic Agriculture Congress held on November 3 to 4, 2016 at Tigbauan, Iloilo.

            Also, Goat Raising Livelihood Enterprise of the Agdahon Farmers Multi-Purpose Cooperative of Agdahon, Cuartero, Capiz (50 heads of native goats); Organic Native Swine Production of the Iloilo Citywide Farmers Association in Bito-on, Jaro, Iloilo City (15 heads of native swine) and Organic Agriculture Demonstration Farm Showcasing the concept of Integrated Natural Farming System and its component were established under the technology demonstration.

            A total of Twenty (20) knapsacksprayer, Twenty (20) sets of garden tools, Ten (10) units of Vermi tea Brewer and Five (5) units of Greenhouse with Drip Irrigation were distributed and established under the Agricultural and Fishery Machinery, Equipment, and Facilities Support Services.

            There were five declared winners for this year Search for Regional Organic Agriculture Achievers Awards’ under the following categories: Outstanding Provincial Focal Person (Iloilo)-Mr. Elias Sandig ; Outstanding Municipal Focal Person- Ma. Asuncion Tabucuran (Tubungan, Iloilo); Outstanding Agricultural Extension Worker- Marjorie Tacardon (Tubungan, Iloilo); Vegetable Growers Association of Tubungan (Tubungan, Iloilo); Outstanding Farming Family – Meliton Family (Banga, Aklan).This activity is annually conducted to give due recognition for the exemplary performance of organic stakeholders.

            Ms. Marjorie Tacardon of Tubungan, Iloilo City was the National winner for National Organic Agriculture Achiever Award 2016 (NOAAA) for Agriculture Extension Worker (AEW) Category during the 13th National Organic Agriculture Congress (NOAC) for her exemplary achievement in the promotion of the Organic Agriculture Act.

            The Region continues to endeavour in looking for appropriate solutions to sustain Program Implementation in Western Visayas.
