The Provincial Government of Albay in partnership with the Department of Agriculture Bicol launched the Albay Based Food Production Program (AFBFPP) on March 8, 2017 at the Albay Astrodome this province. With the theme ”Mahal ko ang Pamilya ko, kaya Go Organic ako” ,the activity aimed to provide sustainable, healthy food for every family particularly in Albay through the establishment of organic vegetable gardens in every barangay and the creation of a pool of well-trained coordinators for bio Intensive gardening who will monitor the said organic gardens. A search for outstanding community vegetable garden will be conducted later.

With the active collaboration, partnership and cooperation among organic agriculture stakeholders, the region was able to accomplish numerous activities in support to the attainment of the programs objectives. To date around 23,209 hectares are devoted to organic farming in the region of which almost 5,000 hectares are 3rd party certified, with a total volume of around 67,960mt. Majority of the certified farms are coconut which are processed into cocowater, vinegar and cocosugar followed by pigmented rice being supplied to almost 800 distributors/supermarkets nationwide.
